All Acne Scars are not Created Equal

These days, there are an abundance of options to treat acne, as well as impressive acne scar removal treatments. Thanks to extraordinary advances in technology, medicine, and understanding of acne, it is possible to eliminate pimples and the scars they leave behind.

To treat acne scars, it is necessary to identify the type of scar so that the appropriate treatment can be applied. Here are some of the common types of acne scars:

Depressed Acne Scars

If skin is marred by small depressions left behind by acne, then the scars are known as depressed acne scars. The worst part about depressed acne scars is they become exaggerated as skin loses elasticity with aging. Within depressed acne scars, there are three different types; rolling acne scars, boxcar acne scars, and icepick acne scars.

With this type of scarring, surgery is an option for acne scar removal treatment as are fillers, peels, and microdermabrasion. Some people also experience success with laser treatments.

Raised Acne Scars

Raised acne scars can be downright ugly. There are two types of raised scars, keloid and hypertrophic. Keloid scars are problematic because they worsen over time and are impossible to hide with makeup. Hypertrophic scars tend to fade over time and are a bit easier to disguise.

Acne scar removal treatments for this type of scar include surgery, cryotherapy (freezing) and topical treatments like peels. They are challenging to treat because scar tissue is raised above the surface of the skin.

Skin Color Changes

This is the most common type of acne scar and the easiest treat. Technically, spots are not scars and will fade over time - but it may take years. Skin lighteners, peels, laser, and microdermabrasion are common treatments for skin color changes.

Most of the treatments indicated above are pretty expensive. The Zenmed Derma Cleanse System is an affordable, comprehensive acne and acne scar removal treatment. For a limited time, Zenmed will include their alpha-hydroxy/beta-hydroxy (AHA/BHA) acne scar removal treatment that gently peels away dead skin cells and eliminates acne scars.
